Turks & Caicos Named Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination

Turks & Caicos Minister of Tourism, Hon. Porsha Stubbs-Smith accepting the ‘Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination’ award from Chris Frost, VP of World Travel Awards

Three Turks and Caicos Resorts also claimed top regional accolades at World Travel Awards.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Turks and Caicos Islands claimed the prestigious title of the ‘Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination’ by the World Travel Awards at a lavish gala on Saturday night at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

The honor was one of several that the Turks and Caicos Islands was nominated for at the 23rd Annual World Travel Awards – Caribbean region, including the Caribbean’s Leading Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Port Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Dive Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination, Caribbean’s Leading Luxury Island Destination, and the Caribbean’s Most Romantic Destination.

Additionally, the Turks & Caicos Islands Tourist Board was also nominated for the Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board.

Accepting the award for the destination in Jamaica was the Hon. Porsha Stubbs-Smith, Minister of Tourism, Environment, Heritage and Culture. “The incredible beaches of the Turks and Caicos Islands are simply one of those things you have to see to believe. Words and photos never truly capture the magnificent color of our waters and poweredwhite sand. I’m tickled that the Turks and Caicos has maintained its appeal as the Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination for an impressive fifth year and counting,” she said. “These awards reinforce what we already know to be true, the Turks and Caicos offers a high-quality product as a luxury tourist destination. Our beautiful natural attractions, world-class accommodations and restaurants, and our rich local heritage, teamed with the best in service from our hospitality workforce help us to maintain continued success not only in the region but in the global marketplace.”

Three resorts in the Turks and Caicos Islands also won big at Saturday night’s gala. Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages & Spa was named the Caribbean’s Leading AllInclusive Family Resort, Amanyara Villas was named the Caribbean’s Leading Luxury Resort and The Palms Turks & Caicos was named the Caribbean’s Leading Spa Resort.

The World Travel Awards is considered the Oscars of the travel industry, regarded as the highest achievement a travel product can receive in the international tourism industry.
All regional winners, including the Turks and Caicos, will now compete head to head in the corresponding world categories to decide who will triumph in the World Travel Awards™ world awards – the ultimate accolade in the travel and tourism industry. The winners are announced on the night of the World Travel Awards™ Grand Final at the end of the year.
