Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2016 is shining a major spotlight on the “Beautiful by Nature”, Turks and Caicos Islands. The Turks and Caicos Tourist Board today announced that the destination, apart from the cover models, is featured in this year’s highly anticipated Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2016 scheduled to hit newsstands, the web, and mobile platforms today. The destination was selected by the SI Swimsuit editors to host this famous shoot.

While the Turks and Caicos Islands have served as a backdrop to national and international films and photo shoots, this marks the destination’s first appearance in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. Shot by renowned photographer, James Macari, this year’s shoot reunites swimsuits with the beach. The gorgeous turquoise waters and sugary white sandy beaches of Providenciales and Middle Caicos, complimented the stunning beauty of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models Hailey Clauson, Ashley Graham, Lily Aldridge, Hannah Ferguson, Emily DiDonato and Barbara Palvin.

Surrounded by miles of coral reef and superb beaches, Providenciales is TripAdvisor’s latest pick for “World’s Top Island” and its Grace Bay Beach has been ranked “Best Beach” by Conde Nast magazine, TripAdvisor, and the World Travel Awards for several years running. This is where most of the water sport activities take place from diving to deep sea fishing and everything in between. “Provo” offers all modern conveniences, including luxurious hotels, villas and condos, numerous restaurants, spas and shopping facilities, and a championship caliber golf course. Although Provo is the most developed of the islands, it is still a destination for those who want to escape their busy schedules and relax.

The largest of the islands, Middle Caicos is 48 square miles of natural beauty with a population of 275.Rich in eco-tourism, the island offers small but comfortable accommodations reflective of the true essence of the Caribbean. The coastline around the island of Middle Caicos is more dramatic than that of the islands in the archipelago; especially on the north shore, where there are extensive cave networks, coves, and limestone cliffs with long sandy beaches. The south is dominated by swampland and tidal flats which almost covers half the island. At Mudjin Harbour in Middle Caicos – considered by many to be the finest landscape in the archipelago, a half-moon lagoon in the ocean and a picturesque beach juts out from the land to link up with an offshore cay, presenting one of the most dramatic sceneries perfect for the  Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2016 shoot.

The iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit franchise reaches more than 70 million US adults annually and spans more than 20 product extensions along with a vibrant experiential marketing business. Since debuting in 1964 Swimsuit has become a pop-culture phenomenon and a revered launching pad for successful careers in TV, fashion, business and film including those of Kathy Ireland, Cheryl Tiegs, Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Kate Upton, and Chrissy Teigen.

“The Turks and Caicos Tourist Board is beyond thrilled that Sports Illustrated Swimsuit chose to feature the world’s best beach destination in this year’s swimsuit issue. Sports Illustrated Swimsuit is known for choosing the most beautiful locations in the world to feature some of the most beautiful women in the world, a fitting merger. We look forward to welcoming Sports Illustrated Swimsuit readers from around the globe to experience our warm hospitality, superb offerings, and our breathtaking scenery in the near future,” said Director of Tourism, Ralph L. Higgs.
