Turks and Caicos Islands Issued a Level 2 Notice from the CDC

Local Government Protocols Have Effectively Flattened the Curve While Safely Welcoming Tourists to the ‘Beautiful by Nature’ Destination

PROVIDENCIALES, TURKS AND CAICOS (December 11, 2020) – The Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board, the exclusive tourism authority for the Turks and Caicos Islands, todayannounced that the destination has received an Alert Level 2 from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The new travel health notice represents the Turks and Caicos’ vigilance in curbing the spread of COVID-19 and the success of its safety protocols.

“We are pleased that the CDC has issued a notice to the Turks and Caicos Islands that reflects our effectiveness in flattening the curve while safely welcoming visitors,” said Hon. Ralph Higgs, Minister of Tourism for the Turks and Caicos Islands. “We appreciate the community’s
adherence to local government protocols and the requirement of international travelers to become certified by TCI Assured, our quality assurance portal, to ensure the ongoing safety of our residents and guests of the Turks and Caicos Islands.”

News of the CDC’s Alert Level 2 comes on the heels of the Turks and Caicos Islands being added to the United Kingdom’s Safe Travel Corridor List and receiving the Safe Travels Stamp from the World Travel & Tourism Council, which denotes that its existing safety protocols align with the core requirements established by the WTTC, along with governments and health experts, which are designed to standardize safe travel. These include, but are not limited to, urging proper physical distancing, enforcing capacity limits, requiring masks in public places, ensuring proper hand washing techniques and sanitation, among other core ‘Safe Travels’ requirements.

The Turks and Caicos Islands’ TCI Assured has also established the quality assurance portal, which lives on the Turks and Caicos Islands Tourist Board website and serves to certify international travelers for arrival. A travel authorization is provided only after visitors have
provided proof of negative COVID-19 PCR test results from an accredited healthcare facility within five days prior to their arrival to the destination, proof of medical insurance, and a completed health screening questionnaire. A 14-day quarantine period is not required for
visitors once they have tested negative for the virus.

Upon arrival to the airport, visitors can expect to present their TCI Assured certifications to local authorities, all of whom wear personal protective equipment, before proceeding through immigration where temperature checks for each traveler will also occur.
