PROVIDENCIALES, TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS January 24, 2013: The Turks & Caicos Tourist Board, The Department of Culture and LIME have partnered to advance a local cultural explosion. This will take place in the form of a weekly Fish Fry event that will engage visitors and locals alike.
Several local vendors have signed up to be a part of the weekly event which will take place at the Children’s Park in the Bight each Thursday from 5:30pm to 9:30p from January 31, 2013. There will be entertainment by local bands, a Junkanoo Rush and cultural performances.
LIME is the presenting sponsor of the weekly event and General Manager of LIME, Mr. Drexwell Seymour said, “This is an excellent initiative being advanced by the Tourist Board and The Department of Culture. LIME is proud to be a part of this event where visitors would get a taste of our Islands through the music and the food.” He continued, “January 31 also marks a significant milestone in our business as it would be the 115th anniversary of Cable & Wireless being in the Turks & Caicos Islands. We are a part of the Turks & Caicos Islands – its history and LIME is pleased to support this venture.”
Mr. Ralph Higgs, Director of the Turks & Caicos Tourist Board commented, “We are constantly looking for opportunities to give visitors an authentic experience of Turks & Caicos Islands. This event aims to do just that. We want to encourage local restaurants, straw vendors and artisans to be part of this venture. I would like to encourage the local community to come out each week to support it.”
Department of Culture, Director, Mr. David Bowen added that “my department is enthusiastic about joining in this initiative and is happy to support all efforts to showcase our culture.”
Locals are accustomed to attending a weekly fish fry at the various restaurants in Providenciales. This event will allow the restaurants to be in one spot so that there would be greater opportunity for mingling and to enjoy a little of the culture of the Turks & Caicos Islands.
