At the 26th Annual World Travel Awards on January 28, 2019, the Turks & Caicos Islands won the prestigious awards for Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination 2019 and Caribbean’s Most Romantic Destination 2019.
Since the beginning of the New Year, the Turks & Caicos Islands has received several travel industry award nominations, continuing its multi-year streak of accolades. The Turks and Caicos Islands received eight (8) nominations for the 2019 World Travel Awards in the following categories:
- Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination 2019
- Caribbean’s Leading Cruise Destination 2019
- Caribbean’s Leading Destination 2019
- Caribbean’s Leading Dive Destination 2019
- Caribbean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination 2019
- Caribbean’s Leading Luxury Island Destination 2019
- Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board 2019
- Caribbean’s Most Romantic Destination 2019
The World Travel Awards Caribbean & North America Gala Ceremony took place at Sandals Montego Bay, Jamaica with industry leaders, luminaries and international media in attendance. World Travel Awards is recognized globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire. Each year, World Travel Awards covers the globe with a series of regional gala ceremonies to celebrate the achievements of the travel industry.
The Director of Tourism, Ramon Andrews, on the announcement of this achievement commented, “We are extremely proud of our 2019 World Travel Awards for Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination and Caribbean’s Most Romantic Destination. The range of nominations we received showcase the high standard and diversity of our tourism product with recognition for romance, beach, cruise, among other areas. Stacy Cox, CEO of Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association, also expressed excitement on the new wins and stated “The Turks & Caicos Islands has performed exceptionally at this year’s World Travel Awards and this is a testament of the remarkable performance of the destination and the hotel industry”.

The Turks & Caicos Islands, as a destination, has won the World Travel Award for Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination every year since 2015. From 2012 to 2014 the award for Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination was won by Grace Bay Beach specifically which seized the title from Negril, Jamaica. The 2019 nominees for Caribbean’s Leading Beach Destination were Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, Martinique, The Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks & Caicos Islands and U.S. Virgin Islands.
Most notably, the destination has won the award for Caribbean’s Most Romantic Destination 2019 for the first time, capturing the title from Antigua and Barbuda who held the coveted title every year since 2015. The nominees for Caribbean’s Most Romantic Destination 2019 were Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, St Barth, St Martin, The Bahamas, Turks & Caicos Islands and U.S. Virgin Islands.
The awards for Caribbean Leading Beach Destination and Caribbean’s Most Romantic Destination were accepted by Director of Tourism Ramon Andrews, Snr. Marketing Executive Jennifer Pardo, Snr. Public Relations Officer Elisha Jennings and Pamela Ewing, USA Regional Marketing Manager of the Turks & Caicos Islands Tourist Board.
