Turks and Caicos will reopen for tourism on July 22

An island vacation might be in the cards this year

An island vacation might actually be in the cards this year. The islands that make up the Caribbean are in various stages of reopening this month, with some spots like the U.S. Virgin Islands, already open to tourists.

Now, popular vacation destination Turks and Caicos has announced its own reopening date: July 22.

The British overseas territory, which is made up of more than 40 small islands, initially closed its border in March, completely shutting airports and seaports. The phased reopening began in late May when the country allowed residents to return to the islands. On June 5, Turks and Caicos will allow businesses to reopen, and restaurants plan to reopen on July 6 before tourism commences on July 22.

Numerous airlines have already confirmed that they will resume flights from the United States, Canada, and Europe by the time the islands open. The Grand Turk Cruise Center, however, will remain closed until August 31.

In addition to updated protocols to keep locals and tourists safe during reopening (details will be released later this month), the islands currently have a nightly curfew in place and require masks to be worn in public places.

As for the rest of the Caribbean, St. Lucia and Antigua will reopen on June 4Jamaica has announced a July 15 reopening date; while the Bahamas, Aruba and the Cayman Islands haven’t announced official dates.
